Marco Polo was a Venetian merchant and explorer whose travelogue, written with the Italian writer Rustichello da Pisa following Polo's return from the Mongol/Chinese Yuan Dynasty court, helped bring a new level of knowledge and understanding to European societies about their East Asian counterparts. Traveling for decades across the Silk Road to Asia, Polo also described in great detail the societies of Central Asia through which he passed.
The Silk Road was an extensive set of overland trade routes connecting the Eastern and Western portions of the Eurasian continent since antiquity. The network bears the name "Silk Road" for one of its most famous commodities: silk, often produced in Chinese textile workshops and bought at great expense in the West, even as early as during the days of the early Roman Empire.

This measure can help illustrate cinematic hotspots within a time period by comparing which years of the overarching, actual historical time period are backed up by a cinematic release.
23 years on the timeline fall inside the boundaries, 8 of them with nothing set there yet. The filled part of each bar is the share carrying this period.

Periods overlap freely so concurrent means the two spans share years, and the shared stretch is named. Bounded means it lies wholly inside this one, beginning and ending more than 10 years within its boundaries. Before and after are the nearest periods lying outside this one, with the gap in years shown instead. A shared thread is what the two have in common besides the calendar, and a period lying wholly outside this one can still share one.
