The Loom
Events and historical themes followed across time
On Period Piece, a thread represents a single historical event, theme, or trend as it is depicted or otherwise related to titles in the archive. Some threads are highly localized to a specific point in time (namely threads that cover specific events such as battles or disasters) while others transcend eras to describe long-running historical processes. For more information about how we define our thread categories, please consult the glossary. This page gathers them all to be woven into an interconnected fabric of history, running from one event to the next and so on.
Tangles
Each row is something that ties threads together: a title that carries several, a historical figure on screen in titles of several, or the narrowest place two share. Each column is a thread, in the order it is filed, earliest on the left, with its era marked beneath; a dot shows a row reaching that thread, and a heavier rule stands for several titles, people or places tying the same threads. An open ring is a thread beside the one it is part of. Press a column's name to see what ties that thread, or a row to pull its threads on the timeline together.

Six degrees of history
Pick two threads and the Loom finds the shortest chain between them: through a title that carries both, a historical figure who appears in the titles of each, the narrowest place where titles of each are set (a city or region before a whole state), or, last of all, a time period both threads run through.
